Historical markers

Markers may be erected to commemorate one or more of the following:

    • Persons
    • Events
    • Places
    • Geologic Features

They should be of statewide or national significance. Download the Guide to Oregon Historical Markers & Heritage Trees brochure. You can also request to have a brochure mailed to you.

Statewide significance: Examples could include the Applegate Trail as a transportation mode or the Provisional Government gathering at Champoeg.

National significance: Examples could include the formation of Crater Lake, the boyhood home of US President Herbert Hoover, the bombing of the US mainland that took place in Brookings, or the shelling of Fort Stevens.
